I find this poem a good representation of the experience of women, such as my grandmother Velma, who had loved ones in the armed forces fighting overseas in the Great War of Nations.

A beautifully written moving poem. Thank you for sharing it with us – as I am sure many will relate it timthe time if our ancestors in wartime.

Thank you for your comment, Susan. I was particularly struck by how ordinary, even petty, the details of the tea were, contrasted with the enormity of what these women were experiencing in losing loved ones to war.
